In this farm story I have yet to mention how my husband is the sheer genius behind most of it. He can read a book or an article and bring the idea or concept to life, he’s the master visualizer and I am inspired by him daily.
He decided that if we were going to have a farm, he wanted an orchard…but not just any orchard. An heirloom organic orchard that is run by solar water drip lines and completely organic practices. He amazes me on the daily, and this little venture of ours is proof. With no past interest in plants or produce, the fact that he dreamed this up for us will always have me grinning from ear to ear.
We planted our first of many orchard groves in the Spring of 2019, which included over 300 bare root trees. We really had no idea if what we were doing was right or if these little bare sticks would come to life, but we never gave up hope. I’m so proud to say that in the first year, every single tree has blossomed and bloomed…and a few already have fruit! We are completely blown away. We’ve heard the soil on our land was pure gold, and while I know that has definitely been a step in the right directions for us, I am convinced that it’s my husbands determination about it all that’s really making it flourish.
One of my many dreams since moving here was a lush field filled of ombré colors. Flowers so tall that I could walk thru them and brush my hands against the tall stalks. Being a flower farmer was not even on my radar, but now it is front and center. I never want to stop learning and growing, creating and designing. My biggest dreams include building spaces and greenhouses that serve as a space used for creative events, photo shoots and a spot for YOU to put together your most beautiful bouquets, cut fresh from our gardens, filling your home with beauty and wonder. Our first dahlia field is planted, and is growing bigger than I had imagined. My dream of ombré fields are coming to life and I just cannot wait to be able to share it with all of you.
One day soon, in the very near future, our farm will be open to the public as a Upick – a place to bring your family and pick organic apples, cherries, plums, apricots, persimmon, pears and pluots. A place to enjoy a picnic in our valley and a place to visit our animals with those you love the most.
